Whetmead is an old landfill site which has been returned to the local community, allowing all ages to enjoy an observe wild flora and fauna within Witham.
Whetmead is an open space area, designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR). Much of the area is dominated by a rough meadow terrain with some plant species flowering, as well as young woodland, scrub and three lagoons which are all linked. Small creatures can be seen such as butterflies, dragonflies and bees as well as seed-eating birds.
