WCHP is a local charity
providing help and support to the local homeless community. Since it’s establishment in 1991, WCHP has grown to cover a wide area, including Worthing, Littlehampton and Horsham, and supports around 1100 clients a year with the help of over 200 volunteers.
Help is available to anyone aged 18 or over in the local area who is homeless or insecurely housed. This help can take the form of housing, financial assistance, counselling and emotional support and social engagement.
Staff aim to help the men and women we work with make the necessary changes and choices towards a sustainable and independent life.
Started in 1991 by four local Christians who took soup, blankets and sleeping bags to the seafront to offer to local homeless people. From this small beginning Worthing Churches Homeless Projects was born. Today this Christian charity has grown to have 50 staff members and over 250 volunteers and provides a range of services, which offer opportunities to regain independence. We now have five projects locally:-
St Clare's Day Centre, open every day of the year, providing hot and cold food, drinks, showers, a change of clothes, washing and drying facilities, medical services, chiropody, hairdressing, advice and support. About 30 people a day have a cooked breakfast served by volunteers. A vital lifeline of support for those on the street.
The Short Term Assessment Hostel allows people to stay for up to 12 weeks and work with staff to begin the task of rebuilding their lives and regaining their independence. A sanctuary away from the chaos and destruction of living on the streets.
Cornerstone House, the Stepping Stones project, enables clients to spend up to 9 months brushing up the skills they'll need to live in their own accommodation. This might include cooking, cleaning, paying bills, rebuilding or making new relationships. A longer term project where people can take stock of their lives.
Delaney House - the Recovery Project - over the years experience has shown that for some people abstinence is not an easy option and could have catastrophic results, so this specialist project gives clients an opportunity, with proper supervision, to stop drinking or taking drugs. Over a period of up to two years we will work with the clients to help them manage their addiction and return to work and new life in the community.
The Move On Project – a 5 bed property allowing clients the opportunity to explore independent living.
We could not do our work without the generosity of local companies, churches and individuals giving time and money.
