637 Volunteer Gliding Squadron - 01451 810 078

637 VGS is a flying training unit under the command of No.2 Flying Training School and 22 (Training) Group of the Royal Air Force.

637 Volunteer Gliding Squadron is a Volunteer Reserve unit based at RAF Little Rissington, which is operationally under the Command of No. 2 Flying Training School, through the Directorate of Flying Training of 22 (Training) Group of the Royal Air Force.

Formed in 1966, 637 Gliding School (original designation) was stood up at RAF Gaydon, Warwickshire operating conventional gliders. Following the closure of RAF Gaydon, 637 GS was relocated to RAF Little Rissington in 1977, where it was re-designated as 637 Volunteer Gliding School. The VGS converted to the Venture T1 (Motor Glider) in 1981, later converting to the Venture T2. During the Gulf War, 637 VGS temporarily relocated to RAF Benson, while RAF Little Rissington was used for battlefield medical services. On return in 1991, the VGS converting to the Vigilant T1. In 2005, 637 VGS was re-designated a Volunteer Gliding Squadron.
