Fir Tree Centre overlooks the Taff Trail in Quakers Yard. Our location make us the perfect stopping place for cyclists to have a snack and toilet break.
Fir Tree Community Association is a community enterprise and a registered charity. It has been run and operated by volunteers from Fir Tree Drive in Quakers Yard, Treharris since 2002. Fir Tree CA started out operating out of two old porta cabins and for years they served the community well. However, they had become dilapidated and an alternative was needed.
Thanks to a huge amount of dedication and commitment, over the last 5 years Fir Tree Community Association have been able to raise the £372K required for a purpose built community centre and café. It has been a long and arduous journey, with many setbacks, but the volunteers didn’t give up and this eventually resulted in successful funding from Ffos Y Fran Community Benefit Fund, WCVA Communities Investment Fund, The Tudor Trust, and the Community Economic Development Programme, which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. Hafod, along with a significant amount of staff time, has also contributed £25K towards the new building as well as covering the costs of the initial feasibility work.
The new Eco Friendly Building houses a stunning Café, it has a light and airy space and bi-fold doors which lead to a raised deck overlooking the valley. Open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. the café serves a selection of tasty snacks, as well as an all-day breakfast option. We think you’ll find the cafe offers great quality and value for money and with free WiFi with every purchase it is a comfortable space to sit and have a tea or coffee, either alone or with friends. Our volunteers are trained Baristas so are able to make a range of coffees including Lattes and Cappuccinos at a fraction of the cost you would pay in popular branded coffee shops.
We also offer rooms for hire for functions, celebrations and events.
