Rochdale Childrens Moorland Home has been running for over 120 years.
HI PLEASE SUPPORT ROCHDALES OLDEST CHARITY BY INVITING ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO THE PAGE AND SPREADING THE WORD
tHE HOME WAS FOUNDED IN 1894 AND SINCE THEN HAS BEEN PROVIDING HOLIDAYS TO DESERVING CHILDREN WITHIN THE ROCHDALE BOROUGH. THE HOME DOES NOT CHARGE THESE CHILDREN FOR THEIR HOLIDAY AND IS SOLELY DEPENDENT ON DONATIONS.
UNFORTUNATELY THE HOME IS NOW EXPERIENCING DIFFICULT TIMES WITH GRANTS FROM THE COUNCIL BEING CUT. IN ORDER TO REMAIN OPEN NEXT YEAR THE HOME NEEDS TO RAISE £55,000. PLEASE SUPPORT THE HOME BY ATTENDING ALL THE FUNDRAISING EVENTS, TO BE POSTED ON THIS PAGE.
During the school holiday periods children are selected by the local social services department, who bring the Children to the Home on a Monday morning and then return on Friday afternoon to collect the Children and deliver them safely home. The Home also offers services during term time, with Children attending from schools in underprivileged areas or which provide extra support for Children who have learning or physical difficulties.
The Matron, deputy and the activity coordinator are responsible for the care and entertainment of the children and besides giving them tasty nourishing, home cooked meals each day, we ensure that they experience a variety of trips. Children this year have been to attractions such as the circus, the seaside, children’s theme parks, bowling, the cinema, Animal Quakers, Healey Dell, Hollingworth Lake, local parks and picnics area’s to name just a few and throughout the season Children create a gallery in the dining room of photos and mementos of all the trips they have been on.
Obviously, we need to balance out the outings with cost implications against those that are free, as the money for these trips is provided solely by donations to the Home. The children love going on the trips and it would probably astound you that many of them have never seen the sea or been to the cinema, but what is even more astonishing is that often these young people have never seen cows or horses and they love the local walks on the moor to see the cattle and young foals. Despite today’s society of electronic games etc, our young guests can’t get enough of traditional, liberating free fun playing outdoors on the swings, trampolines, slides and large wooden adventure play equipment. These, along with the wooden fort, the football pitch and the fresh air, really ensures they get plenty of enjoyment and exercise. It’s surprising just how many of the children have never had the chance to play outdoors like this. Come bed time, with all the fresh air and running around, they are ready for a good nights sleep to prepare them for the next exhilarating day of their holiday.
