What is Therapy and Counselling?
Therapy and Counselling offers you a trustworthy place to talk about your life and anything at all that you find distressing, confusing or uncomfortable. This process allows you to talk openly, honestly, without judgement and to be listened to with respect by a professionally trained, experienced, sensitive and sympathetic Counsellor.
It is not about giving advice. It is about helping you to understand more about your personal needs. It will help you to come to your own decisions about your concerns. It will provide consistent support whilst you make the changes that will enable you to feel better about yourself. It will encourage a more confident optimism in your changed lifestyle.
How can Therapy and Counselling help?
You may come along for a variety of reasons such as emotions you are experiencing as a result of a particular incident. Equally, you may wish to receive help in dealing with unexplained moods of sadness, depression, anxiety or low self-esteem that don’t seem to be connected with any specific event.
How will Therapy and Counselling make me feel?
Because it is a very personal process it is impossible to predict this. However, since it is necessary to talk through sometimes painful feelings, you may well go through an initial period of being upset. This, of course, is natural and understandable but more importantly a very real indication of potential change. It is essential to remember that these episodes will pass and you will be able to reflect upon these as part of a process that helped to make you feel much better about yourself in the long term.
Will I feel better immediately?
Usually it will take a number of sessions before any therapeutic change starts to make a difference. However, on very rare occasions, a single session may be sufficient.
