Uckfield Town Council is made up of fifteen Councillors who are elected every four years. The Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor are elected by the Councillors every year.
The Council has three main committees - General Purposes, Plans and Environment and Leisure, two sub-committees - Personnel and Finance, and a number of working groups including the Urgent Consultation Panel and Editorial Panel. The Full Council and main committees meet approximately every eight weeks. The Plans committee meets every three weeks in order to make observations to Wealden District Council, which is the planning authority.
All Council meetings are held in the Council Chamber, on the first floor of the Civic Centre and are open to the public. Agendas are available to the public prior to the meetings, on notice boards throughout the Town and on the Council’s website. At these meetings members of the public are allowed to address Councillors at the discretion of the Chairman of each meeting.
The Town Council has its offices on the first floor of the Civic Centre, and is open to the public Monday - Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm and Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm. The Council Offices are the first point of contact for all Council services - telephone 01825 762774.

ALLOTMENTS - Allotments are provided at the following locations - Bell Lane, Bird in Eye, Framfield Road, Ridgewood and West Park. Plots vary in size and all sites have a water supply.
CEMETERY - Uckfield Town Council is the burial authority for the Town and the cemetery is situated in Snatts Road. There are strict regulations regarding burials and the interment of ashes in the cemetery. A copy of the regulations and fees can be found on the Council’s website.
THE CIVIC CENTRE The Civic Centre is home not only to Uckfield Town Council, but also Luxfords, a restaurant and coffee shop; seven function rooms of various sizes available to hire; and Weald Hall, where several events are held each year. The Centre also hires out the Council’s other venues: Forester’s Hall, Luxford Field and the sports pitches at West Park and Victoria Pleasure Ground.
The Civic Centre is conveniently situated in the heart of the town, just off the High Street with a free public car park nearby. There is disabled access to both ground and first floors. The Civic Centre also participates in the Community Toilet Scheme. ENVIRONMENT SERVICES - The Town Council employs four full time grounds staff, who maintain all the open spaces owned by the Council within the Town. They maintain and mark out all sports pitches, maintain and water flower beds and floral displays, hedge cutting, grass cutting, maintain all the play parks and carry out other works in woodlands and Local Nature Reserves. The grounds staff also undertake regular inspections at the Council's allotment sites and playgrounds and provide additional litter picking as required. FORESTERS HALL - Foresters Hall, in Harcourt Road, Uckfield, is available for hire for a variety of functions, including, yoga, meditation, exhibitions, and children’s parties. Enquiries 01825 747790.
GRANTS - Over the years the Town Council has provided thousands of pounds in grants to hundreds of local groups and organisations. Applications are invited each June for determination usually in September and all grants agreed are allocated for the following financial year.
LUXFORDS - Luxfords is a friendly restaurant serving freshly made food in relaxed, spacious surroundings. Open 10am-3pm, Monday to Saturday, it serves coffee and homemade cakes, lunches including light bites, sandwiches and smaller appetite dishes as well as daily specials, and an all day breakfast. Luxfords is also licensed.
Situated just inside the Civic Centre, it has wheelchair and pram/buggy access. There’s seating outside for sunny days. You can read complimentary newspapers and magazines while sipping coffee or waiting for friends and enjoying the free WiFi.

PLAY AREAS - The Town Council provides play areas at Downland Copse, Hempstead Lane, Hughes Way, Luxfords Field, Oakwood Drive, Rocks Park, Ridgewood Recreation Ground and Victoria Pleasure Ground and is committed to providing quality play areas. The Council budgets annually to a rolling programme to upgrade equipment and fencing. A New Skate park and BMX tract has also been provided at New Barn.
PITCHES AND PAVILIONS - The Town Council provides a number of sports pitches at Victoria Pleasure Ground, West Park, New Barn Farm and Harlands Farm, which are available for hire. In addition there are also sports pavilions at Victoria and West Park which can be hired separately for parties, meetings etc.
STREET LIGHTING - The majority of street lights in the Town are the responsibility of East Sussex County Council. However, Uckfield Town Council does own some lights in various locations throughout the Town. The Town Council’s lighting policy is to gradually improve the standards of these lights and then to hand them over to the County Council for future maintenance.
THE UCKFIELD VOICE - The Uckfield Voice is Uckfield Town Council’s Newsletter to their residents. It is published every other month in the centre fold of the free Uckfield Matters magazine delivered to every door in the town. The council pages give news and information, including the contact details of councillors, dates of council meetings and any current consultations on council services.
