West Bay CRT is an 'On Call' emergency service and as such the station is not manned at all times.

West Bay Coastguard is a Coastguard Search & Rescue Team (CRT) with 12 Coastguard Rescue Officers (CRO's).

All of the Rescue Officers are volunteers, coming from a variety of backgrounds and all are on standby to respond to any coastal emergency 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The team is equipped with a 4x4 Rescue Vehicle (MRU) and a range of specialist equipment enabling it to respond to a variety of incidents including:

• Cliff & Rope Rescue
• Inshore and Tidal Water Rescue
• Assisting with Suicidal Persons
• Searching for Missing Persons, Ordinance & Chemicals
• Setting Up & Manning Helicopter Landing Sites (HLS)
• Guiding Other Agencies to a Casualty (RNLI & Air Ambulance)

The West Bay CRT’s area of cover or ‘Guard‘ stretches from ‘Seatown‘ in the West through to ‘Abbotsbury‘ in the East and includes many leisure beaches and tourist attractions as well as the busy harbour of West Bay.

Harbour users include Commercial Fisherman, Day Trippers, Dive Charters and Leisure Craft.

The team works closely with other emergency services including Police, Fire, Ambulance, RNLI and Rescue Helicopters and is coordinated by the National Maritime Operations Centre in the Solent.
