We are a Community Church.
Who Are We?
We’ve been meeting in Birtley since 2009 but the church has been active on Tyneside since the late 60’s.
We are members of an international grouping of churches called Salt and Light International, as well as being active in Birtley Churches Together.
When do we meet?
We meet every Sunday morning in the church at 10:30 to around 12:30. There is also a Sunday School and Crèche facility available.
On the first Sunday of every month we hold a special "Funday Sunday" all the family service followed by a buffet meal afterwards. Please feel free to come to join us.
We also meet together during the week in small groups for friendship, discussion, prayer and Bible study. The groups meet, both during the day and in the evening, at different venues around the area. Children and Youth.
For younger children (boys and girls: 5-10 years) we run a Royal Rangers outpost. Royal Rangers is an international movement that aims to inspire children to live to serve and please God … and also have fun. See http://www.royalrangers.com/
For older children we join with other churches to run a youth group called 6:47 (6ix4rty7even). This meets on Sunday evenings and is described as being “a mixture of worship, teaching, ridiculous games, food, chat, activities, and anything else we can come up with”. It includes 24 hour residential adventure trips.
A Heart for the Community
When you visit us you will find a friendly welcome.
We call ourselves a "Community Church" and reaching out into the community is a priority, however, we try to maintain a balance between Loving God, Loving His Church and Loving Others.
On the first Sunday of each month we have a "Funday Sunday" service for all the family, with themed games, quizzes and a shorter message, followed by a Family Lunch.
On the other Sundays, we have a "slightly" more formal service, with modern worship, prayer, teaching from the Bible and Communion. This is followed by refreshments and time for a chat, which we feel is very much a part of our service. We'd love to chat with you too!
In addition, every couple of months, we hold a Ladies' Breakfast at 9 am on Saturday mornings, with visiting speakers. Please ask us when the next one will be. Feel free to bring a friend with you—we always have many visitors attending these! mornings. You can even enjoy seeing the men serve and wash-up for once!
The men too get together for M.O.B. Events (Men Of Birtley). These include Curry Nights, Walks, Games Nights, and the occasional Full English Breakfast Meeting.
Also, we invite the community to join us at our regular "Socials" for fun and friendship. Recent events have included A French Night, St Patrick's Day, Australia Night, An Evening with John Archer, Chinese Banquet, Texan Hog-roast and a 60s Night!
You can get a flavour of What's On at BCC by viewing our Monthly Diary, in the "Attachments" link below.
Reaching Out:
We are actively reaching out into the community including Open the Book in Primary School, Supermarket Ministry and we are starting Puppet Outreach.
The Leadership Team.
The church is currently led by a leadership team of three couples, headed by Patrick and Denise Briddon, however we believe church membership is partnership, and everyone is encouraged to play their part in church life.
